Notre Dame and Barack Obama

On Sunday, President Barack Obama takes his seemingly eternal campaign to the University of Notre Dame, which gives every appearance of having abandoned its truly eternal campaign. The good news is that after weeks of debate since the ostensibly Catholic university's announcement that the president would receive an honorary doctorate, we're finally going to get it over with.
With all this, a decent President would say, I don't want to hurt anyone with my presence, so I will decline the offer.

Not President Smirky, we will just show everybody, HE WON! He will do what he likes. I'm sure Michelle is proud of his Country now. She is sitting on the other throne.
Everyone there should stand up and turn there backs to him when he speaks. Now that would send a message.

  1. I'm proud to be your first follower. I'm sure you can tell by my site that we may not have a lot in common, but I do agree with your political views, even though I tend to just not be very vocal about it. My father, on the other hand, is extremely vocal in the right direction and I'll have to introduce the two of you. Keep up your blogging, it's good, and I'll follow with interest.

  3. Yep. It's all about HIM & his entitlement...

  6. I share similar views on Barry speaking at Notre Dame. Ordinarily I would advocate respecting the office, even if you disagree with the man in int but he shows absolute disdain for our sensibilities and beliefs so I say no, no respect is due.

A considerate man; a diplomatic man, would have declined the engagement and given the students who worked so hard for their commencement that opportunity to participate unmarred by any advocacy of someone who is the polar opposite of every tenet those students and their faith holds dear. Shame be on him.

  8. A majority of students and faculty SUPPORT President Obama's right to speak at ND. He was invited by ND's president.

A very vocal MINORITY is making trouble. While they have a right to protest, they do NOT have the right to disrupt what A MAJORITY of students and faculty agree on--letting the President of the United States fulfill the invitation accorded to him.

You people all have it backwards. You want Mr. Obama to retreat? Because a tiny minority demands it?--THAT constitutes entitlement--just because you yell the loudest and say the most vile things doesn't entitle YOU to get your way.

The Notre Dame 2009 valedictorian of the graduating class us a biology major who is on her way to Harvard Medical School, and is pro-life. She welcomes Mr. Obama and says that he is most definitely like Jesus.

    Chew on that.

  9. Thanks, Shaw. I'm eating my lunch, though, & don't need anything else to chew on.

I personally don't care that much about the whole Notre Dame issue (I guess b/c I'm not Catholic). However, with this I take issue: "She welcomes Mr. Obama and says that he is most definitely like Jesus." WRONG; not the Jesus I know.

Just b/c a gal is highly educated & is on her way to an elitist institution doesn't mean she's got good sense. And this quote just proves it.

(Okay, so if this still says 'Red Cheetah', then it's my son's account, but it's really me, 'Susannah')

  11. She has sense all right. But you don't agree with her.

Harvard elitist? They accepted and graduated George W. Bush, didn't they? Not very "elitist" of them--especially when GWB couldn't get into UT law school. LOL!

And the Jesus you "know" loves everyone, not just people YOU agree with. Your idea of Jesus is like the Islamists who believe Allah hates those who do not worship as they believe they should.

  12. Dear, dear Shaw...
My sentiment of disagreement w/ the Valedictorian has absolutely nothing to do w/ who Jesus loves. It has everything to do w/ ANYONE who equates Mr. Obama with Him (as you apparently do w/ the pic you have of him, captioned "Our Messiah").

(Yes, yes & it always comes back to GWB & what was/is wrong w/ him...You folks are eventually gonna have to come up w/ a new scapegoat. Using GWB for everything just isn't interesting anymore.)

"Your idea of Jesus is like the Islamists who believe Allah hates those who do not worship as they believe they should."

Oh, that sounded SO good when you typed it, didn't it?? Dear friend ~ You have not ONE CLUE what you're talking about. You don't know ME, my history, my faith, my knowledge of scripture, my church, or who I experience Jesus to be. You have absolutely NO BASIS upon which to say something like what you've said.

At my blog & @ others' I try very hard NOT to make judgements about others' faith. (Who am I to know?) I've been to your blog, & have been what I think is exceedingly fair to you & your readers (& even offered prayer, as I recall). I invite you to come visit mine, if you like, & you will be treated with respect.

Were I you though, & I wanted to be taken seriously, I'd tone it down a notch or two, sweetheart.

Incidentally, 3 of my very best & most respected church friends (including my African American Pastor) are liberal Democrats, with whom I VEHEMENTLY disagree on politics. It's not something we talk about. On matters of faith we have deep & profound understanding & are truly brothers & sisters in Christ. (But, as much as they support their President, I've NEVER heard/seen ANY of them liken Obama to Jesus...)

  13. Susannah,

That photo of Mr. Obama with the halo around his head and the caption "Our Messiah" is a satire on all the Obama-haters who call him "The One."

I don't believe in Messiahs, since there is, IMHO, no such thing.

You took that photo seriously? Lighten up.

PS. In my family there are born-again Christians, Jews, Mormons, Buddhists, Jehovah Witnesses, Catholics, and nonbelievers.

And for the most part, they are Liberals. We all get along just fine, Sweetheart.

Members of my family have also served/are serving in all branches of the military, as well.

  14. Hi Shaw! Now, isn’t this better? From the tone of your comment, I’m glad to see that we’re getting along better. Though, you didn’t address the audacious license of assumption you took with my personal faith.

“In my family there are born-again Christians, Jews, Mormons, Buddhists, Jehovah Witnesses, Catholics, and nonbelievers.”

    Okie-dokie.

“Members of my family have also served/are serving in all branches of the military, as well.”

    Congratulations…?

“That photo of Mr. Obama with the halo around his head and the caption ‘Our Messiah’ is a satire on all the Obama-haters who call him ‘The One’…”

Nope, it’s mockery whether I take it seriously or not. Oprah Winfrey started “The One” reference. (You know what happens once Oprah says something. The Kool-Aid pitchers come out & cups all around…) Once the holy, annointed One notion caught on, Mr. O perpetuated it by claiming HIMSELF to be The Source of Hope for America (not his campaign & the movement it inspired, mind you, but HIMSELF). So, the term does have merit.

Btw, haven’t we discussed the whole creepy-religious-zealotry-around-BO at your blog before, including the aforementioned photo? Didn't I mention the woman who came into my church wearing a button that said, "Faith, Hope, Obama" (That's a reference from Corinthians - a synonym for Jesus should go in the place where Mr. O's name is.) Maybe I was just talking to myself.

”I don't believe in Messiahs, since there is, IMHO, no such thing.”

Baby, that’s your issue, not mine.

”You took that photo seriously? Lighten up.”

Well see, I’m kind of sensitive about folks who mock Jesus, but it’s really not my opinion you should concern yourself with. I’m just sayin’.

Thanks, BR, for the space here. Hope Shaw & I haven't taken up too much of it. We do each have our own blogs, after all. :)

  15. Minor curiosity: Shaw IS a female, right? It would be a rare male who could think in such circular fashion and be so arrogantly certain of his conclusions.... Just wondered....
